Emergency Out of Hours Service

Both Ards & Kircubbin Dental Surgeries operate an out of hour's emergency service on a rota basis with two other local dental practices. This is only for patients suffering with severe dental pain & are registered with participating practices. No fee applies for the Emergency Out Of Hours Call Out for patients covered by Denplan or are registered NHS patients. Fees will apply unless you are a registered NHS patient entitled to free treatment.Unlike others we do not send our registered patients& practice members to the hospital if they are experiencing pain.

To use this service please call the practice on: 028 91 812507 / 028 42 738729. The dentist on call will advise you of action to take and where to go if you need to be seen.

Remember no toothache will heal on its own a toothache is a dental problem which needs to be treated as soon as possible!!

Please call: 028 91 812507 or 028 42 738729

What to do if you have a swollen face:

This is an indication you may have an abscess or infection.

If the swelling is affecting your breathing attend your local A&E department straight away. Contact your dentist as soon as possible for an emergency appointment as you may require treatment or an antibiotic.

If you have broken a tooth:

Contact your dentist as soon as you have fractured the tooth.

Try to avoid eating with the broken tooth as this may cause discomfort or sensitivity.

If a crown/bridge comes out:

DO NOT ATTEMPT TO REPLACE THE CROWN OR BRIDGE WITH SUPERGLUE! If the crown or bridge is at the back of the mouth leave it out and keep it in a safe place. If it is at the front of the mouth you may be able to purchase a temporary crown cement from your local chemist. Follow the instructions on the pack & contact the surgery as soon as possible to have it re-cemented on a permanent basis.

If a tooth is knocked out:

If a tooth is knocked out immediately contact a dentist for an emergency appointment. If the dentist is not contactable immediately please attend your local hospital, the tooth should be replanted within an hour. Handle the tooth by the crown (the top) not by the root. Do not scrub the tooth. Place the clean tooth in the mouth between the teeth and the gum to keep it moist. If it is not possible to store the tooth in the mouth wrap it in clean gauze and immerse it in milk. If a baby tooth is knocked out the tooth should not be replanted.

Contact your dentist as soon as possible.
